The Astrologer

Kai Singh is a charming but unscrupulous astrologer whose spiritual guarantees are powered more by greed than the stars. When a wealthy Punjabi-American family hires him to prevent their only son from marrying Mary, a white veterinarian, Kai sees the opportunity of a lifetime. Working with his glamorous secretary and lover, Lola, he begins manipulating everyone involved—collecting money from the family, the young couple and even Mary’s cattle-farming father. But as his schemes expand from astrological remedies to a fraudulent Indian wedding and a mysteriously misrepresented buffalo, Kai’s increasingly complicated web of lies begins to collapse around him.

A colourful cross-cultural romantic comedy about love, family expectations and the profitable business of telling people exactly what they want to hear.

Almost Married

When Mandy’s boyfriend, Carlo, proposes during a meeting of their Indian and Italian-American families, unexpected circumstances force them to arrange the wedding within one week. But Mandy’s traditional relatives are horrified: her slightly older cousin Nisha cannot be allowed to remain unmarried while Mandy reaches the altar first. What follows is a frantic search for Nisha’s husband involving speed dating, unsuitable relatives, a fee-hungry astrologer and increasingly desperate family schemes. Meanwhile, Mandy must contend with Carlo’s overbearing mother, an impulsive trip to Las Vegas and a hypnotism video that threatens to derail her own wedding.

A fast-moving cross-cultural romantic comedy about love, family rivalry and the lengths people will go to preserve tradition—and appearances.
